Description
Amateur ukulele performers of all ages are invited to audition for the 11th annual Duke's Ukes ukulele competition, sponsored by Duke's Waikiki. Finalists will move on to the live competition on October 1, 2016.
Event Details
Contestants of all ages will compete in two divisions: ‘ukulele instrumental and ‘ukulele and vocals. Each division will feature two age categories. Winners in each ‘ukulele division will be presented with a new Kamaka ‘Ukulele. A “Best Showmanship” award will be given along with additional prizes including Duke’s Waikiki merchandise, gift certificates, and more. Contestants who choose to play a traditional piece of Hawaiian music will also be eligible for the “Ho’okahiko Mele” award.
Auditions will be held online and in person. Participants must complete the application form, available at www.dukeswaikiki.com/dukes-ukes, prior to their audition. The contest offers two divisions: Ukulele Instrumental and Ukulele & Vocal with two age categories in each. The winner will receive a new Kamaka Ukulele. Other prizes include Duke’s Waikiki merchandise and a variety of gift certificates and ukulele gear from music stores throughout the Island.
